El actor español más conocido, Antonio Banderas, y el director español más famoso, Pedro Almodóvar, no trabajan juntosdesde hace más de 20 años. Pero ahora Antonio Banderas será el Dr. Lergard, un eminente cirujano plástico obsesionado por cultivar piel transgénica desde que su mujer murió quemada en un accidente de coche. Para ello, deberá pasar una puerta prohibida: la transgénesis con seres humanos. Este es el punto de partida de la nueva película de Almodóvar: La piel que habito.

Después de 11 semanas de rodaje, el proyecto está en fase de montaje. En septiembre de este año veremos la historia de este moderno doctor Frankenstein en la piel de Banderas. Su reencuentro son Almodóvar se produce 20 años después deÁtame, la película que lo dio a conocer internacionalmente. La piel que habito es un proyecto antiguo que el director ha retomado varias veces.

Según el director, "la película es un intenso drama que a veces se inclina por el ‘noir’ (cine negro), a veces por la ciencia ficción, y otras por el terror". La mezclade géneros puede interesar a un público que no suele sentirse atraído por laspropuestas del cineasta manchego. La piel que habito está basada en la novela Tarántula, del francés Thierry Jonquet.
